College Projects
In a 2009 post on the Asthmatic Kitty website[1], Sufjan described many concept projects that he undertook while in college:
- Songs for the days of the week
- Songs for the planets
- See also: Planetarium
- Songs for the Apostles
- "Songs for Names" Project (of which "Sofia's Song" was published with the post)
"Lost" Christmas Albums
Every year between 2001 and 2006, with the exception of 2004, Sufjan released a Christmas album to his friends and family, intending it only to be heard by them. However, these albums were quickly leaked to the internet. In 2006, Asthmatic Kitty released all of the albums released up to that point (Vols. I - V) as a box set. Then, two years later, in 2008, another Christmas album, Songs for Christmas - Vol. VIII, was again leaked to the internet. This implied the existence of a Songs for Christmas: Vol. VI and a Songs for Christmas: Vol. VII released between 2006 and 2008. Until 2010, no known leaks of these albums existed, until the week of Christmas 2010, when Gloria!: Songs For Christmas - Vol. VI was briefly previewed on BBC radio, and shortly after, leaked online [2]. This seems to further indicate the existence of a Volume VII for Christmas 2007, however no information about it or its existence has surfaced, except a tip that Gabriel Kahane provided vocals and piano [3]
Unfinished states albums
According to a 2005 interview[4], Sufjan indicated that he had begun work on States albums for Oregon and Rhode Island. However, no known songs from these albums have ever been heard, and it is unknown, in fact, whether they even exist or not.
